Château Damase 2015

Bordeaux Superieur

Download

Chateau Damase is a completely charming wine, planted primarily to Merlot with some of “Bordeaux’s Lost Grape” – Carmenere. The vibrant Merlot along with the lovely spicy touches make Damase somewhat of the classic fresh, Bordeaux bistro red.

Vineyard

The estate is planted to 85% Merlot and 15% Carmenere. The viticultural techniques employed here are carried out with the same care and attention to detail as those practiced at classified estates in Saint-Emilion.

Winemaking

At harvest, the grapes are sorted again by quality. Following a selection of the best grapes, there is 100% destemming and a gentle crushing before transferring the berries to temperature controlled vats. A traditional Bordeaux fermentation takes place. The objective is to strike a balance between obtaining good extraction and allowing the terroir to express itself. The wine is aged in new and 1 year-old oak casks, and bottled 18 months after the harvest.

Tasting Note

The wine has an excellent depth of color and an explosive bouquet of truffles, violets and plums. The full-bodied palate is loaded with a melange of delicious red fruits and structured with soft, supple tannins. There is good balance and a long finish.

Reviews

"With a rounded, concentrated, balanced style"

Jeb Dunnuck - August 15, 2018 “Aged 18 months in new and once used barrels, it offers medium-bodied notes of red currants, wood smoke, tobacco, and earth. With a rounded, concentrated, balanced style and building tannin, drink it anytime over the coming 15 years.”
